The Samsung Odyssey G9 and D7 monitors are finally available. Recall that these are the first PC monitors with a 1000R curvature and a QLED panel with a frequency of 240 Hz.
Presented at CES 2020 along with the Odyssey G7, the G9 will finally appear in France. Boulanger just transferred it for 1499 euros, we suspected that its price would be high.
1000R WHAT DOES IT MEET?
Recall that the Odyssey G9 is the first monitor with an unusual curvature of 1000R. This is the optimal curvature for the PC screen since the human eye has a range of about 1000R. The number shown refers to the radius of the curved monitor in millimeters, and R to its radius (for example, the monitor 1000R corresponds to a monitor with a radius of 1000 millimeters). Interesting fact: this radius measurement also serves as the maximum recommended value for viewing distance (so leave 1 meter between the screen and your eyes).
In addition to this impressive curvature, this is a high-performance screen designed for gamers as well as for everyone who needs several screens to work: this is a wide 32: 9 monitor with a diagonal of 49 inches. with a VA QLED panel in the resolution of Dual Wide Quad HD (5120 x 1440 pixels), a refresh rate of 240 Hz, and a response time of 1 ms, not forgetting the support for the HDR1000. Please note that it is compatible with AMD FreeSync and Nvidia GSync. The screen also offers the ability to simulate two screens, as if you had two monitors nearby.
However, a weak point should be noted: it does not have HDMI 2.1, so it is difficult to get 240 Hz with a maximum resolution. Neither DisplayPort 1.4 nor HDMI 2.0 can handle 5120 x 1440 pixels at 240 Hz. Only HDMI 2.1 is capable of this, unfortunately, while there is no compatible video card (AMD and Nvidia in place),
However, given these characteristics, we better understand why the note is salty, 1499 euros - this is a high price for a monitor for gamers. Please note that you will need a very large and durable table, its width is 1.15 meters, and the base is about 23 kilograms.
ODYSSEY G7: MORE THAN USUAL, BUT SAME TIME
Odyssey G7 is much more traditional: we find the 1000R curvature in 16: 9 format with a resolution of WQHD (2,560 x 1,440 pixels). The 32-inch and 27-inch diagonal also includes a VA QLED panel with a refresh rate of 240 Hz and a response time of 1 ms, but with a slightly lower brightness - about 350 nits (versus 500 nits for the G9). ) with peaks on the HDR600.
The G7 Odyssey is referenced by Boulanger and LDLC. The 27-inch format costs 649.94 euros, and the 32-inch - 749.95 euros.
